LOMA VISTA

Clubhouse renovation
Austin, Texas
Completed in 2016

This project was a transformation of an old dated 1980’s clubhouse into a contemporary community center that will serve as a hub of social life for the residents of this East Austin neighborhood.  The renovation began by stripping the 9,000 square foot shell down to its frame in problem areas and amending the structure to open up the dark interior.  New storefront glazing on the front and back now brings natural light pouring in to the refreshed, open-ceiling interior.  A sculptural custom steel and wood staircase now connects the main level to the office space above, and anchors the double-height entry foyer.  The space is expanded by open sightlines into the glass-walled yoga room and children’s play area.  The new community meeting room opens to the neighborhood through full-height storefront glass and features a clean and full-featured kitchenette and breakroom.  The expansive new exercise room looks out over the swimming pool and horizon beyond, and is supported by completely new and fully accessible restrooms and locker rooms.  The project features new plumbing, electrical work, and lighting throughout, completing the evolution of this building into a modern, energy efficient, and welcoming centerpiece that will continue to serve the community as it grows.
